Welcome to Sustainable Provision of Ecosystem Services
As a means of supporting the Royal Government of Cambodia’s National Strategic Development Plan (NSDP) 2009-2013 and the EC Strategy Paper 2007-2013, the European Union (EU) has contributed towards the “Sustainable Provision of Ecosystem Services Project” (SPES) in the Cardamom Mountains Landscape (CML) implemented by Fauna & Flora International (FFI) and its partners.
The project aims to offer the Royal Government of Cambodia, rural communities, private industry and other important stakeholders that utilize Cambodia’s natural forest resources the opportunity to integrate environmental sustainability into their decision making through an innovative financing mechanism, especially at large scale hydroelectricity development sites located within the CML and Bokor Mountain.
The CML contains the second largest continuous rainforest in mainland Southeast Asia with global significance for biodiversity and carbon storage, is threatened by deforestation and biodiversity loss.
Fauna & Flora International (FFI), with relevant government agencies and project partner, The Learning Institute (LI), began implementing the SPES project in January 2011 and will operate until the end of December 2014.
